Overview
The City of Columbia is governed by a seven-member City Council/City Manager which includes a Mayor and Vice Mayor. Voters in each of the five wards elect a Council Member, and the Mayor and Vice Mayor are elected by voters of the entire City. Each Council Member serves a four-year term. The City Manager is appointed by the Council and has no term limit.
Meetings
The Columbia City Council meets on the first Thursday of each month for a study session and the second Thursday of each month for a working (voting) session. Both meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the Council Chambers at City Hall located at 700 N Garden Street. City Council meetings are available to watch via livestream on the City of Columbia’s YouTube channel.
In the event of official holidays, scheduling conflicts or inclement weather, meetings may be rescheduled. Any changes will be posted on the City’s Main Calendar of events.

Agendas for City Council voting sessions are available in the City Manager's Office located at Columbia City Hall (700 N Garden Street) and online two days before the meeting.
