Public Education

Columbia Fire & Rescue’s Public Education Programs are dedicated to preventing unnecessary injuries and loss of life. The department believes that the most effective way to reduce emergencies is through proactive prevention and education. Community members and organizations can schedule these programs by contacting the Administrative Office at 931-560-1700.

Touch a Truck


Touch a Truck events are designed to educate and familiarize young children with the fire service and fire safety. Firefighters bring a fire truck to events at schools, churches, daycares, or community gatherings, offering truck tours, demonstrations of tools and equipment, and distributing fire and life safety education materials.

Station Tours


Station tours are a longtime favorite for both children and adults. Columbia Fire & Rescue welcomes the public to visit any of its fire stations to experience firsthand what it’s like to be a firefighter serving the City of Columbia.

Blood Pressure Checks


Firefighters occasionally set up booths at special events to offer complimentary blood pressure checks. Additionally, community members are welcome to visit any of the five fire stations at any time for a free blood pressure screening.

Fire Extinguisher Training


Columbia firefighters provide on-site training to groups, teaching participants how to select and properly use fire extinguishers tailored to their specific needs.

Ride-Along Program


The Ride-Along Program offers citizens of all ages the opportunity to observe and participate in department activities by riding along with a fire company for a day. Participants may accompany firefighters on emergency calls and gain insight into fire and rescue operations.

Fire Explorer Program


The Fire Explorer Program is available to young men and women aged 14 to 20 who are interested in learning more about the fire service. The program’s primary goal is to offer youth a chance to explore careers in firefighting and emergency medical services while fostering leadership skills and responsible citizenship.
